(Pronounced OM-budz-man)
An Ombudsman is someone who steps in to protect seniors when care, safety, or living conditions raise concerns. They listen, gather facts, and take action to make sure problems are addressed—especially when neglect, abuse, or fraud is suspected.
Our team includes two types of Ombudsmen, both dedicated to protecting seniors and resolving problems in care settings:
- Certified Ombudsman
A state-certified official from the local Long-Term Care Ombudsman Office. Certified Ombudsmen are authorized to investigate concerns inside licensed care facilities—such as nursing homes, assisted living, or adult day programs. They remain neutral and report directly to the proper authorities responsible for protecting resident rights. - Investigative Ombudsman
An in-house specialist trained by our organization to respond to concerns in private homes, independent living, and unlicensed care settings. They focus on situations that may not fall under state oversight but still involve serious risks—such as financial abuse, caregiver neglect, or unsafe conditions.
We can help
When something feels wrong in a care setting—whether it is poor treatment, unsafe conditions, or suspicious behavior—it can be difficult to know where to turn. Seniors may feel powerless. Family members may hesitate to speak up. Caregivers may not know the proper steps to take. Without the right help, mistreatment can continue unchecked.
Our Ombuds Team steps in with the training, authority, and structure to make sure no concern is ignored, and no senior is left unprotected.
- Investigate Concerns – Begin by listening to the senior or concerned person, gathering facts, and identifying patterns of mistreatment
- Negotiate Resolution – Engage all parties to resolve problems quickly and respectfully, always putting the senior’s needs first
- Report Mistreatment – Notify the proper authorities when needed, making sure serious issues are documented and addressed
- Follow Up – Stay involved until there is a clear resolution and verified improvement in the senior’s care or situation
